Powerful capabilities made easy and cost effective
Digirati’s IIIF Cloud Services product provides a comprehensive platform for the production, management and provision of IIIF resources at scale. It implements all the IIIF APIs; Presentation, Image, Search, Change Discovery, Authorization Flow and Content State. Whether your content comes from large-scale digitisation workflows or individually hand-crafted digital objects, IIIF Cloud Services has web-based tools like the Manifest Editor, and or comprehensive APIs for integration to handle every aspect of putting digital collections online as IIIF.
The product’s features have been developed through many years of customer collaboration on real world use cases for IIIF.
With integrated preservation capabilities available, automated workflows from ingestion of digital assets into a preservation system through to their dissemination via IIIF web-based discovery can be delivered without the need for custom infrastructure set up or integration.
IIIF Cloud Services supports IIIF Manifests for digital objects, IIIF Collections to group them, IIIF Image Services for deep zoom and web presentation, AV transcoding into web-optimised formats, and content integration of annotations, transcripts, translations and any other supporting material. Integration with your own identity provider allows IIIF Cloud Services to enforce granular access control on your resources, if necessary. IIIF Cloud Services takes care of hosting, managing and integrating all this material, even if the inputs are archival TIFFs or other preserved formats.
A IIIF-Centric Approach
Core to the platform is the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF). If you are unfamiliar with this standard please see our Introduction to IIIF and the IIIF website.
By utilising IIIF manifests as the ‘unit of distribution’ for digital objects the platform can publish them for viewing, annotating, searching, and utilise the growing ecosystem of IIIF-compliant tools that have rapidly grown in number over the last few years, including other products we have developed ourselves. The same manifest for example could be utilised in a crowdsourcing project (see Digirati Madoc), featured in an online exhibition (see Digirati Exhibition Builder), viewer or web page (see Thesus) , used for training a machine learning model or have machine enrichment applied to it such as OCR, handwriting and image recognition, text summarisation and categorisation (see Manifest Editor ).
IIIF acts as the bridge that enables the platform to bring these capabilities together thanks to the platform being built from the ground up with this standard at its core.
